PASSENGERS IN PANIC-"Passengers in panic"

Progressive metal in Greece is becoming one of the most successful and representing genres of metal music in the 21st century from NEED to HAIL SPIRIT NOIR, VOI and now PASSENGERS IN PANIC and SLTheory the scene is flourishing. In this particular case the band besides the breathtaking name (suitable for every Titanic passenger) has these ingesting amalgam of folk elements and modern progressive /metal. What about FATES WARNING join KING CRIMSON in a Greek folk music traditional feast. 

Female vocals, complex time changes and Greek folk elements fused in PIP music. The origins of bands like APHRODITE'S CHILD, SOCRATES and MOUSIKES TAXIARXIES are equally represented with METALLICA, DREAM THEATER and KING CRIMSON. Kally Voo the voice behind the songs has a certain distinctive voice. In the most heavy parts the band reminds me somehow of the early THE GATHERING but the use of "traditional' musical instruments such as lute, violin, flute give the band the more "pagan" sound that is similar in all Balkans and central europe soundscapes until the early 1900s, in the traditional songs. 

 

 

"Gang of stares" is a fine example fo the album, while their cover of the tradional song "Tsampasin" of the Pontic Greeks who lived mostly at the Black sea, in the region of Pontus until the Turkish initiated  genocide from 1915-1922 , gives goose bumps to all of us who know a bit of history. The band, a collective of musicians around the initial quartet hard core dare to touch major issues at 'Leap of faith" as the rape and murder of young Eleni Topaloudi, a sex based violent crime that reveal  some of the major issues of the amoralism in the Greek society and especially younger people and other victims in Somalia, Pakistan women murdered similarly because of their genre . From HAGGARD to METALLICA and all in between PIP come with an impressive debut full of tradition and metal passion and they deliver with no mercy songs who claim your attention and deserve it.
