THE JADED HEARTS CLUB- "Live at 100 club"

 

 

A supergroup consisted of musicians from the alternative/Brit rock music scene consisting of lead vocalists Miles Kane (LAST SHADOW PUPPETS) and Nic Cester (JET)  bassist Matt Bellamy (THE MUSE)   guitarists Graham Coxon (BLUR) and Jamie Davis  (of Coxon's former label Transcopic), and drummer Sean Payne (THE ZUTONS)  in a live recording of some classics. WHO, Van Morisson,ROLLING STONES, BEATLES, CREAM are all getting the treatment they deserve from a band that actually pays tribute to their musical heritage and less their musical past. 

 

Rocking, rollin and with a lots of soul and emotion THE JADED HEARTS CLUB deliver a live album that connects 60s-70s with today's tech freak youth with one element in common, live music. 'Money" is as powerful and contemporary as it was half a century ago. "Back in the USSR", "Helter skelter", "Paint it black" are small earthquakes of powerful music and the 'Sunshine of your love" gets a tight, in your face approach like a wrecking ball demolishing the social isolation of 2020. 

 

 

 

Rock n roll in its finest from a band that delivers the goods and shakes the club foundations with some powerful renditions  timeless classics. Forget Covid 19, vaccinations and the pale future of live music and embrace this live album as the picture of a past we loved a future we all hope will share again.

Gilby Clarke- "The Gospel truth"

Ex GNR guitar man continues his solo career with an album , down to earth ,oozing 70s rock.The early Aluce Cooper influences, the dark colors,the laid back bass lines, the swing,the groove and the striped down guitars are all over the album.This dynamic of austerity along with the primitive groove of the rhythm section and the particular metal of Clakrke's, voice produce an early 70s rock sound that has a lot to be compared with Alice and sometimes AMBOY DUKES. 

 

 

At "Tightwad" we have the participation of Nikki Sixx and Stepehen Perkins, but the overall result stays a t the same 70s shock/glam rock sound. "Rock n roll is getting louder" is a fine example of the sonic example this album indicates. So if you like Hard rock with a swing,take your chances to a veteran of the Hair metal scene who changed direction and embrace his musical roots on his solo career,stripping down his sound to the rock essentials.

Smith/Kotzen- "Smith/Kotzen"

The duet nobody expected.A man and his voice raised on an equal diet of funk rock and hard rock, MrRichie Kotzen (MR BIG, POISON, WINERY DOGS) and the man responsible for some of the most  classic heavy metal songs, Adrian Smith (IRON MAIDEN,A.S.A.P) joined forces in a common album. When I listened to the first single, I did not appreciate it much. A bit more heavy for my Kotzen taste (i'm consider myself a big fan, having almost everything he has released especially as a solo artist). But then the album came out, i understood, "Taking my chances' was not  the most conventional piece of music. A bit more MR BIG than expected , still a great opener. It was 'Running '' the second song in the album where the blues rear its ugly head. A monstrous bass line and soloing over the Kotzen led vocals ,  gave me the chills as the album started to take off . 'Scars' supposed to be the ballad Smith/Kotzen had in their minds with some echoes of MAIDEN inside it but another blues/Southern based delivery with guitars honoring Stevie Ray Vaughan and. Gary Moore  with a touch of Tommy Bolin, while the vocals are so reminiscent of Glen Hughes that I think is the missing part to this collaboration. "You dont know me" is a heavy rocker that has the Smith fingerprint all over it, yet the Kotzen solo, makes this heavy rocker a bit funkier.

 

 

The album is a blues rock beast, with both vocals and guitar lines being exchanged between the two musicians with no trace of primadona behaviour. "I wanna stay" is another fine example of modern heavy rock blues anthem, that combines both musicians' creative force and sounds unique and attractive to any decent rock fan.On the contrary they both melt their vocal deliveries and guitar abilities for the sake of the songs. The most powerful element is that both musicians offer some great songs. They sing and let the album and the songs breathe without fearing to let their hair down and get lost in some really tasteful soloing. But it is a song album and not a shredding contest. Kotzen is a bit on his heavier /blues side and Smith is letting himself trade licks in the blues style  away from the MAIDEN'S double,triple guitar attack/harmonies. At the end of the day ,this is an album of heavy rock,blues based rock that initiates the expectations for a second work and even more different approaches.Both musicians seem to enjoy it and in my eyes it is a winner and one of those collaborations that really succeed in the ears of the listener.

«H διαφάνεια του χρόνου» Λεονάρδο Παδούρα (Καστανιώτης)

Η Κούβα μετά την «αλλαγή» του καθεστώτος σε μια διαφορετική κοινωνία, υβρίδιο κομμουνισμού και υφέρποντος καπιταλισμού είναι η πατρίδα στην οποία γερνά ο Μάριο Κόντε, πρώην αστυνομικός και νυν ιδιωτικός ερευνητή. Ο ήρωας του Παδούρα γερνάει. Γερνάει και αναπολεί την παιδική του ηλικία, τις γνώριμες μυρωδιές, γεύσεις, τους φίλους που πλησιάζουν την ώρα της αποχώρησης από τον κόσμο αυτό ή της αναχώρησης για την Γη της επαγγελίας, τις Η.Π.Α, απλώς και μόνο για να πουν στον εαυτό τους, ο,τι δοκίμασαν και έχασαν ή κέρδισαν με δική τους επιλογή. Ο Κόντε σε μια κρίση ύστερης μέσης ηλικίας από την μία περνά όμορφα στο ακατάστατο αλλά δικό του σπίτι, αναζητά όμως εξίσου τη συντροφιά της μόνιμης συντρόφου του Ταμάρα, φοβούμενος κάποιες στιγμές όσα απαιτεί μια μακροχρόνια δέσμευση, αναζητώντας τα την επομένη, ειδικά όταν έχει προηγηθεί η γνωστή κραιπάλη κατανάλωσης φθηνού αλκοόλ και τοπικού φαγητού στο σπίτι του καλύτερου φίλου του.

Οι υπαρξιακοί προβληματισμοί του Κόντε, θα ενισχυθούν οικονομικά από τη εμφάνιση ενός παλιού συμμαθητή, νυν παράνομου εμπόρου έργων τέχνης και ομοφυλόφιλου, στην όχι ιδιαίτερα ανεκτική Κοιυβανέζικη, Κομουνιστική κοινωνία. Ο Μπόμπι, θα τον εισάγει με μια γενναιόδωρη αμοιβη σε  αμερικάνικα δολάρια σε μια ιστορία αναζήτησης ενός αγάλματος μας μαύρης Παρθένου, που η ιστορία  της φαίνεται να κρατά στην Ισπανία των μεσαιωνικών χρόνων. Ο Παδούρα με ενδιάμεσες αναφορές σε προηγούμενες ιστορικές περιόδους, μας μιλά για το άγαλμα και την ιστορία του. Στο σήμερα ξεδιπλώνει τον ιστό του, ανακατεύοντας τον Κόντε, τους παλαιούς του υφιστάμενους που έχουν αποκτήσει θέση την αστυνομία αλλά και τους στενούς του φίλους. Ένα κυνήγι φαντασμάτων που θα τον βυθίσει στον κόσμο των έμπορων αντικειμένων τέχνης και θα του γνωρίσει εξωτικές γυναίκες, αδίστακτους εμπόρους, ακριβά αμάξια, ακριβότερα σπίτια και καλό ουίσκι, σε μια Κούβα που έχει και μια άλλη όψη, απροσπέλαστη και συχνά άγνωστη.

Αυτή των παραγκουπόλεων, όσων έρχονται από τα Ανατολικά για να αναζητήσουν μια καλύτερη τύχη στην Αβάνα ή την διαφυγή στις Η.Π.Α. Ο Παδούρα δεν πολιτικολογεί. Η ιστορία του Μπόμπι, που εξοβελίστηκε από το κόμμα λόγω της ομοφυλοφιλίας του και στράφηκε στο παράνομο εμπόριο και τη θρησκεία είναι μια ιστορία αντίστασης ατομικής ,όχι πολίτικης σε ένα καθεστώς διεφθαρμένο όσο και αυτό που αντικατέστησε με τα όρια ανοχής και στα στεγανά του. Η μαγεία των βιβλίων του Παδούρα είναι ότι η βία υπάρχει αλλά εκεί που χρειάζεται σαν κοινωνικό προϊόν του λούμπεν κυρίως προλεταριάτου και λιγότερο των αρχών. Ο Κόντε δεν οπλοφορεί, δεν έχει καν κινητό. Χρησιμοποιεί το μυαλό του, την συνδυαστική και αναλυτική σκέψη και στο τέλος δίνει κάποιες απαντήσεις , γιατί η αλήθεια ολόκληρη, χάνεται μαζί με την ιστορία του αγάλματος στο βάθος του χρόνου.

«Ἡ διαφάνεια του χρόνου» είναι ένα αστυνομικό μυθιστόρημα, αλλά ταυτόχρονα μια σπουδή στην ανδρική γήρανση, την απώλεια των φίλων, τη φιλία, τον πανδαμάτορα χρόνο, την συντροφικότητα, τη δέσμευση και τον φόβο του θανάτου, καθώς ο χρόνος μπροστά μας μικραίνει και το παρελθόν απλώνει το μακρύ σεντόνι πίσω μας. Γλαφυρός, γεμάτος μεθυστικά αρώματα της Καραϊβικής αλλά και την πικρίλα του ποτού την επομένη ημέρα, ο Παδούρα μας δίνει ακόμα ένα βιβλίο ανατροπών, σκέψης και απόλαυσης, με ένα ποτήρι ρούμι και την παρέα όσων αγαπάμε γύρω μας, όσο υπάρχουν κοντά μας.

Straight to your heart Outlaw country, honky tonk, Southern rock from the man with the telecaster. Part Waylon Jennings , part ZZ TOP  "Blood sweat and beers" is a real honky tonk, rowdy full of smoke and whiskey drinkers bar music. Harmonica, brings along the violin the country feeling to an otherwise rock album. No mumbo jumbo, intellectual shite, only music to start a fight or a ball on a Friday night. Fast paced , uptempo songs like "Saturday night" and "Rock n roll Honky tonk life" from a musician seasoned at the small club circuit. Country at "Southern breeze" and bitter life aspects at mean/black heart ballad "Patty Lynn" gives the man credits for been traditional yet diversified. 

 

 

 

You may not find him at billboard and MTV but he ll be playing near your house on the weekend nights with original tunes full of wild guitars, a great country voice and a hell of an attitude.An album to dance, fight and make love sometimes all in the same time.

 VINTAGE CARAVAN -"Monuments"

A power trio from Iceland that loves CREAM as much as HAWKWIND but has its own musical identity. A voice,clean,melodic that balances over razor edged riffs and a steady, ice cold rhythm section. For those who like their retro/vintage hard rock like a shinny day over the Iceland glaciers here is the right band. Snowballing riffs, ecstatic, rhythm section and a sheer, powerful voice in the definition of the power trio musical approach."Crystalized" is a mix of heaviness, groove and fusion through the eye of a 70s rocker with MOUNTAIN, AMBOY DUKES and URIAH HEEP having a ball laughing at KING CRIMSON.

 

Songs like 'Torn in two" are a mix of sheer power and calm parts, creating a dominating song that captivates the listener. For once more, the power trio works for the best interest of the musicians who are looking firmly at the late 60s, early 70s. Tight, heavy, yet melodic, heavy rock with a twist of psychedelic melody, is my definition of VINTAGE CARAVAN's music and is addictive as heroin, without the needle process troubles. Tripp y and at the same time loud and disturbing, won't let a hippie find the peace of mind, as the hidden BLACK SABBATH elements will kill the flower power dreams.On the other hand the paisley melodies will let those who loved TROUBLE's middle period, smile with delight. BEATLES, CREAM, Santana,HAWKWIND, BLACK SABBATH, TROUBLE, are starting a witches dance in this delightful album."Clarity" is a fine example, of the sensitivity of the album and "This one's for you" a soulful testimony and message to a dear person, now gone.

 

A dream flight over the cold Icelandic landscapes, wouldn't be more enjoyable.
