This Spanish quartet from Elbar are another addition to bands like SABOTAGE, ELECTRIC HAZE, RIVAL SONS, etc, bands who like their rock with whiskers, bell bottom blues and long soul searching solo with wah wah and female most of the times lead vocals. The band is tight, the hit single is right here in ``Sell me your truth" and as a friend says give me more cowbell. Funky rhythms, big, chunky riffs and a dominating ,deep female voice with the right Joplin references, to let THE MOOD RINGS music pay homage to the 60S/70s (DOORS, CCR, JEFFERSON AIRPLANE) and come addictive and powerful, in an age of plastic music. The debut for the Spaniards is convincing and full of promises. The seed is saw, we are waiting for their next move.

Ένα βιβλίο για τις διακοπές, ένα βιβλίο για μεγάλα παιδιά, ένα βιβλίο για τους λάτρεις της κλασικής περιπέτειας. Πόσες φορές «πιάσατε» τον εαυτό σας να νοσταλγεί καθώς παρακολουθείτε τηλεοπτικές σειρές του BBC, τα βιβλία των Ντίκενς, Τουέην, Μέλβιλ. Τους ήρωες τους μικρούς και ανήμπορους, αλλά με περισσή καρτερία και θάρρος. Τις αναποδιές, που κάνουν το μνημόνιο, να φαίνεται παιδική ασθένεια. Ένα τέτοιο βιβλίο έχουμε εδώ από την Αμερικανίδα Χανα Τιντι, το πρώτο της. Γραμμένο σε γλώσσα λιτή και μεστή, έχει ήρωα ένα δωδεκάχρονο αγόρι με το όνομα Ρεν, ορφανό που μεγαλώνει σε ένα καθολικό ορφανοτροφείο στις Η.Π.Α,στη Νέα Αγγλία, κάποια στιγμή στις αρχές του 19oυ αιώνα. Η επ αμοιβή πώληση του μικρού σε έναν τυχοδιώκτη ονόματα Μπέντζαμιν, θα αποτελέσει το έναυσμα μιας σειράς περιπετειών. Ο τυχοδιώκτης με τον συνεταίρο του στις απάτες και γενικά παρανομίες, θα μυήσει τον μικρό στη λογική της ληστείας και της εξαπάτησης. Σε μια Αμερική, όπου φαλαινοθήρες, λιποτάκτες και βιομήχανοι συγκατοικούν σε πόλεις ξεχασμένες από το θεό, θα γνωρίσουμε τους ήρωες μας. Την ανάγκη του Ρεν να αποκτήσει οικογένεια, την επιστροφή τους στην μικρή πόλη Νόρθ Άμπρετζ, με το εργοστάσιο κατασκευής ποντικοπαγίδων, την τυμβωρυχία, τα μπαρ των χαμένων ψυχών, τους ένοπλους τραμπούκους του «ιδιοκτήτη» της πόλης ,του εργοστασιάρχη Μακ Γκίντυ και το κουβάρι στο οποίο θα οδηγηθούν η ζωή του Ρεν, του Μπέντζαμιν, δύο φίλων του διδύμων από το ορφανοτροφείο, της προσωρινής σπιτονοικοκυράς τους κας. Σάντς  και του αδελφού της.

Μέσα από ανατροπές, δακρύβρεχτα επεισόδια, κακοτοπιές αλλά και επιδείξεις θάρρους και αφοσίωσης, η Τίντι μας περιγράφει μια ιστορία Ντικενσιανή, με τον Μέλβιλ να πλανάται, πάνω από την κακία των ανθρώπων και τον Τουέην να υποδαυλίζει το αίσθημα τους, για ελευθερία και ζωή έξω από τα όρια. Μια ιστορία που περιέχει σε ίσες δόσεις, τη συγκίνηση, αλλά και την περιπέτεια, την έλλειψη οικογένειας  αλλά και την αποδοχή της ομάδας, έστω και ομάδας παρανόμων. Το όνειρο που εκπληρώνεται και το σαρώνει στη συνεχεία η πραγματικότητα, αλλά και την ανατροπή, όταν αποφασίζουμε να πάρουμε θέση και να προκαλέσουμε την μοίρα. Με λόγο ρέοντα, λιτό και μοντέρνο, μέσα από το παλιομοδίτικο μοτίβο της ιστορίας, η Τίντι δημιουργεί μια σειρά χαρακτήρων που τους παρακολουθούμε, αγαπάμε και συμπάσχουμε μαζί τους, ακόμη και αν θεματικά κάπου στο τέλος βιάζει το βιβλίο και οδηγεί σε μια αναγκαστική λύση, με τη χρήση από μηχανής θεών. 

Βιβλίο που θα σας συντροφεύσει νοερά σε ταξίδια, μιας εποχής όπου ο έφηβος ονειρεύονταν ακόμα, ανοιχτούς ορίζοντες.

Mike Onesko's guitar army-  "Last stand"

American guitarist Mike Onesko returns with another blizzard of blues based , guitar oriented material. Blues rock, power trio, classic rock, heavy rock are all in these powerful album. The groovy rhythm section along with the devastating guitar are the main piece of resistance of the album. 'Chains of my mind" may have the voice a bit back but it is the guitar soloing that makes the difference. Onesko is along Frank Marino, Gary Moore, Ted Nugent, one of the white guitar masters that love the 60s, Clapton, CREAM but also MOUNTAIN and Leslie West and of course Hendrix. 

 

 

 

His case is easier to follow as the blues influences and the CREAM essence is all around along with the blues, Chicago especially. "Poison" is another fine example of modern heavy rock blues by a man who knows his craft. "City of lights" has the Southern essence that is common among the blues players of his generation and reminds of the early BLACKFOOT. At the end of the day, the album is a strong, guitar driven album with the assistance of the rest of the band that delivers the modern heavy blues , with passion, conviction and an urge to deliver the message and preach to the younger generation.

Caleb Johnson- "Mountain mojo Vol1'

 

 

What if Glen Hughes was a Southerner from Appalachian Mountains, then he ll probably would be someone like Caleb Johnson. A deep, soulful voice, some SKYNYRD notions, classic rock (LED ZEPPELIN) and a small portion of country bring us a remarkable album (his second one), where the soulful music just serves this deep,emotional voice. 'Drift away' in its acoustic version closes the album with a tour de force by an artist that has the pipes and know to stay simple and on target at his musical journey. The cover 'I just want to celebrate" lifts the spirits up. But the original songs are the ones that makes the difference."Glory bound", Drift away' are prime time 70s Hard rockers, like DEEP PURPLE spend more time at Kentucky. 

 

 

 

The opener "Dead man walking blues" is the more roots driven , dark, blues song.'Child of the wild' is another piece of resistance, in an album that could be among the best Glenn Hughes and Richie Kotzen have ever made. The voice is here and the music serves the voice. Hard rocking tunes with a Southern feeling, no guitar show off, no revitalizing production techniques just wah wah and soloing for the sake of the songs. Straight to the heart music from an artist with a voice strong and steady as the Rocky Mountains. The album has contributions from Jason Bonham, Tyler Bryant, Josh Sawyer, Audley Freed, Tony Lucido, Mike Webb, Damon Johnson, Gale Mayes, Devonne Michele, and Angela Primm and they really give the extra mile to this gifted singer.

Tony Joe White- 'Smoke from the chimney"

Blues meets classic rock in the kind of laid back albums you enjoy on a hot summer night. 

"Listen to your song' is the perfect DIRE STRAITS meets Chris Rea song with some beautiful blues passages. 'Boot money' and Del Rio" are traditional blues rock songs with a twist of tex mex melody and some inner blues driven force. 'Over you" has the Nashville sound all over it, a broken hearted ballad with Johnny Cash ghost singing along with Nick Cave the backing vocals.'Scary stories" is Delta blues at its finest, with the slide and the pedal steel driving you through the Louisiana swamps.'Bubba jones" stay on the same path, a southern blues rock song full of groove and laziness.

 

"Someone is crying' is on the most FM blues style but still works fine with the subtle voice of TJW."Smoke from the chimney' is an album that loves the blues, classic rock and most of all is an album with songs coming from the heart.'Billy' is so much Elvis and the whole album in general has a very retro feeling been bluesy yet having some more country/FM elements. 

 

 

 

At the end of the listening, repeat is the button you're looking to push again and again Laid back, from the heart and with the sweet calmness that comes after a storm or heavy rain, this is the perfect album to leak your wounds and dream of the next day.
