Great blues album with a big part of it giving a nod to the soul and Gospel side of music. If Marcus king and Robert Cray are the Blurs musicians of your choice, in his new wok Robert Randolph will please you. For us who got in to the blues through Blues brothers albums like ‘Brighter days” just help us through the day and I personally have to thank Mr Randolph for ‘Have mercy” a song that really brighten my day in difficult times. A blast of soulful blues for the believers.
Third time's luck, and with their third album Pinnick, Lynch and Luzier (aka KXM) create a monster of modern hard rock. Imagine KINGS X been more commercial, LYNCH MOB been more out of the box, KORN embracing the classic 80s sound. Well all of that and something more, three skillful musicians who merge hard rock, 70s rock, fusion and jazz patters with high degree craftsmanship in songwriting.
The songs here are a joy for those who like drummers who don't stay in the common patters. But the guitar is also a must to listen as Lynch, really stretches his abilities in territories we are not used to have him exploring with loose improvisations and phrasing instead of his usual flood of sharp riffs. The cherry in the pie, the bass lines of Doug Pinnick and his melodic vocal lines who transform from song to song, volatile and adaptive, creating songs like the instant classic "Time flies" , the modern hard rock hell of 'Vessel of destruction", the dark and moody "Circle of dolls" and the aggressive "War of words".
Modern heavy rock, which blinks the eye at the 90s metal and love the attitude of the 80s , having in mind the complexity of progressive rock and the melodies of the 70s. A wonderful combination of songsmith and musical creativity/imagination with the 21st century gloomy mark on it.
Ιρένα Σέντλερ (Η γυναίκα που έσωσε 2500 παιδιά στον Β’ΠΠ) – Ζιλμπέρ Σινουέ (Ψυχογιός)
Πολωνία 1942, η πρώτη χώρα που βίωσε την διπλή κατοχή. Η πρώτη χώρα που οι Γερμανοί και οι Σοβιετικοί πειραματίστηκαν στην εξόντωση του εχθρού, φυλετικού για τους μεν, ταξικού για τους δε. Το Γκέτο της Βαρσοβίας, σύμβολο θυσίας και αντίστασης για ένα λαό που προδόθηκε άθελα ή ηθελημένα, ποτέ δεν θα το μάθουμε, από τους θρησκευτικούς ηγέτες του. Μικρές ανθρώπινες ιστορίες όπως αυτή της Ιρένα Σέντλερ, θα έρθουν στην γνώση του μεγάλου κοινού, πολλές δεκαετίες μετά την λήξη του ΒΠΠ. Στη συγκεκριμένη περίπτωση μέσω μιας ομάδας Αμερικανίδων μαθητριών, που από το Κάνσας που θα συμμετάσχουν σε ένα διαγωνισμό Ιστορίας επιλέγοντας ως θέμα τη ζωή της. Μίας γυναίκας που είχε σώσει 2500 παιδιά ,από το γκέτο μην υπολογίζοντας τον μεγαλύτερο κίνδυνο, τη ζωή της και τη ζωή της άρρωστης μητέρας της. Από την ατομική πρωτοβουλία στην συλλογικότητα, με τη βοήθεια της εξόριστης Πολωνικής κυβέρνησης αλλά πριν και πάνω από όλα με την αυτοθυσία των Πολωνών υπαλλήλων της κοινωνικής πρόνοιας , των ανοιχτόμυαλων της Εβραϊκής κοινότητας του γκέτο και κάθε ενός που ένιωθε την ανάγκη να στρατολογηθεί και να προσφέρει στον αγώνα ενάντια στο θάνατο και την καταπίεση.
Δίχως πολιτικούς χρωματισμούς, με κίνητρο βαθιά ανθρώπινο, η Σέντλερ, θα προσφέρει μέχρι τις τελευταίες στιγμές πριν την ισοπέδωση του γκέτο από τα Γερμανικά στρατεύματα. Θα αναπτύξει ένα δίκτυο, διαφυγής ,προστασίας των παιδιών και καταγραφής των στοιχείων τους, ώστε με το τέλος του πολέμου να βρουν , αν είναι δυνατό τις οικογένειες τους. Θα αντιμετωπίσει τον Ορθόδοξο Ιουδαϊσμό και τον Καθολικισμό στις αδιάλλακτες μορφές του αλλά και τους ανθρώπους που αντιλαμβάνονται οτι η πίστη ενώνει και δεν χωρίζει και από τις δύο πλευρές. Με τη βοήθεια του Στέφαν, αγωνιστή της Πολωνικής αντίστασης και ερώτα της ζωής της, θα ριψοκινδυνεύσει τα πάντα. Ακόμη και στη στιγμή της σύλληψης της, θα σκεφτεί τη λίστα με τα ονόματα των παιδιών που πρέπει να προστατεύσει πριν τη δική της. Θεία πρόνοια ή χρηματισμός του κατάλληλου ανθρώπου, ονομάστε το όπως θέλετε, αλλά θα επιζήσει.
Ο Σινουέ, δεν θα περιγράψει ποτέ μελοδραματικά την ιστορία της εκβιάζοντας το εύκολο δάκρυ. Αντίθετα θα μας μυήσει στην μεταμόρφωση μιας γυναίκας μαχήτριας σε μια γυναίκα έμπνευση σε έναν ανδροκρατούμενο κόσμο για τους γύρω της. Σε μια γυναίκα που προσέφερε ανιδιοτελώς το πιο μεγάλο λειτούργημα, την σωτηρία της ζωής δίχως να υπολογίσει το κόστος, αν την έπιαναν. Λιτό, ρεαλιστικό και με ιστορική ακρίβεια , η μυθιστορηματική βιογραφία της επικεντρώνεται στον καιρό της στην κοινωνική πρόνοια και στα χρόνια ως τη λήξη του πολέμου.
Ένα βιβλίο, για μια παραγνωρισμένη προσωπικότητα, που με προσωπική προσπάθεια και λιγοστά μέσα έδωσε το δικαίωμα σε 2500 μικρές ζωές, να ζήσουν και να συνεχίσουν να προσφέρουν σε ένα κόσμο, που τους είχε καταδικάσει λόγω θρησκείας σε θάνατο. Η Σέντλερ πέθανε το 2008, όμως το θεατρικό των μαθητριών από το Κάνσας και αυτό το βιβλίο, θα βοηθήσουν τέτοιες πράξεις ανθρωπιάς και ανιδιοτελούς προσφοράς να μην ξεχαστούν ποτέ.
Low tune , country songs 'bout heartaches, loneliness and the old ways in an album that maybe is low at volume but is more than a blaster at sentimental volume. In the finest country, americana, tradition Wade Parks drive around the American and Tex Mex traditions offering some small , but valuable masterpieces like "Me Dystruction'. Lay back, open a bottle of wine, turn low the lights and enjoy a breathtaking album, in all the senses, made from humans who don't base their lives and future on pro tools.An album that talks first and almost to emotions.
A Greek rock opera, a Greek prog masterpiece , words, that you can easily and too often read and never believe. SL Theory have searched deep in the musical influences and return to the surface with a really good album , where they honed their influences with their own individual talents. QUEEN, THE WHO, STYX, QUEENSRYCHE, KANSAS and everything in between are the elements they use to create their own musical vision. Pompous, bombastic, melodic, complex in places , but overall a modern prog album that clearly states "we love the 70s grandiose sound, the metallic sound of the 80s and we re musician's with our own ideas." Listen ot it and you will be rewarded. Progressive metal in the more wide meaning of the term gain another disciple.
Aldrich, Castronovo and Blades return at the scene of the crime. This time they re more on the safe side with an album that is high tech AOR for the masses. The pros of their new work, excellent musical skills and guitar work, great performances, classy stuff. The cons, polished to the bone, lacks the flame that makes the real stand out albums. Besides a couple of songs like "Rise" and "Higher" the rest is exactly what we been waiting for. A mix of JOURNEY and DAMN YANKEES best moments with great guitar work and flawless vocals. What is missing is the flame, the inspiration that fuels a song to launch in to the universe of the classic hits. The album sounds more like a product that musicians of their status could come up easily in a weekend. Enjoyable and equally easy forgettable , not too mention too much overproduced.
A fine return to form, performing self composed material for the Finnish Classical trained metal heads. The album is a real joy for the ears. In my opinion songs like "Ashes of the modern world", "En route to Mayhem" and "Catharsis" could be the ideal soundtrack for series like Chernobyl, while "Rise" can resurrect the dead, with its animal power.. A dark, powerful,instrumental in its entity album with a strong emotional impact as cellos are replacing the lamenting metal guitars in an ego trip to modern worlds hell. Bombastic in places, really introvert in to the others, this is a prime piece of Cello driven metal music for the masses. You don’t have to have classical music education to enjoy their music.
The power of these musicians is the immensity of their music. An album I’ve enjoyed the last months to accompany me in good and not so good times. They may not reinvent the steel and astonishing us as they did the first times, but they prove them selves as musicians with maturity, talent and longevity.
