Travis Tritt- "Set in stone'

 

Southern rock meets country at the face of Travis Tritt. Dave Cobb is the man who helped Tritt return in a way similar to artists like Chris Stapleton, getting the Southerner out of him along the soft spot for soul music, gospels and melody.The popularity of country meets the edge of Southern rock and from the opener "Stand our ground' the arenas ask to singalong the roaming Southern guitars and the honky tonk piano.The same title song is another example of outlaw country about the legacy of the older generations against the odds and the mainstream, in a mid tempo, stripped down emotional song, with Tritt's voice giving the chills to the listener."'Smoke in a bar' is a slap at the face of political correctness and the neo fascism regime they try to enforce.' Ghost town nation' is a great country song in the way SKYNYRD would wrote and perform it."They don't make them like that no more" is a honky tonk barnstormer. 

 

 

More laid back the 'Southern man" and "Better off dead' show the 'sensitive' side of Tritt and his love for the old good traditions of the South, honesty, openness and solidarity, exactly what movements like Me2 and BLM are against, as thir based on hate and discrimination, instead of justice and education. "Open line" and "Ain't who i was' brings out the more straightforward country self of Tritt and are good companions for nights soaked in whiskey. The album is closing with "Way down in Georgia" and the harmonica brings the sweet smell of South at the surface. Travis Tritt combined tradition and contemporary Southern rock in an excellent album, easy listening as is easy drinking a fine Southern bourbon. For those who know about good music only.

Ricky Warwick- "When life was hard and fast"

Ricky Warwick likes his personal works more in the vein of a punk THIN LIZZY , then a sidekick of ALMIGHTY. At "When life was hard' he starts with a groovy opener, the same title song and goes to a different kind of poison at "You don't love me" a modern day breakdown song that echoes GODFATHERS and MOTORHEAD (Another perfect day era0 at the same song. But along with his partner in crime from BLACK STAR RIDERS Robbie Crane (bass) and Xavier Muriel (ex BUCKCHERRY) (drums), he has a few more surprises under his sleeve.  "Id rather be hit' is his idea of an FM song and trust me it is a great one. RW sour voice let love, frustration and passion released all in once at the same song and although he keep the things simple, the music and the voice are aiming straight to the heart with some good old punk rock n roll guitar solo bringing your defenses down. 

 

Ricky has a great punk background and bands like SOCIAL DISTORTION and STIFF LITTLE FINGERS are hiding among the melodies of the songs crying out to be heard at some smok bar. or a small club stage. "Gunslinger" is a straight to your face , rock n roll attack, a blazing bass line and some heavy rhythm guitars , like a wrecking ball going for some old buildings in the heart of downtown New York, with no mercy, just sheer power. 'Never corner a rat' goes in the same vein, in your face rock n roll. 'Time don't seem to matter" is what we love in Warwick, his sensitive side under the tattoos and the bad boy attitude, a heart of gold as Neil Young used to sing. It is also a duet with his daughter Pepper. The album has some well known musicians as guests  including Andy Taylor (Duran Duran & Power Station) Luke Morley (Thunder), Joe Elliott (Def Leppard), Dizzy Reed (Guns n Roses). But has most and above all, a true rock n roll hero at his best form, on his own with no bands limitations. The THIN LIZZY esque "Fighting heart" is a reminder why Ricky got the job at the last version of THIN LIZZY and why Ireland is home of the singers who sing from the heart. "I dont feel at home' has the innocence of RAMONES , 'Clown of misery" is Ricky and his acoustic guitar at the closest you can see him at an acoustic,stripped down show, as the internet ones he gives the last few months. The closer "You re my rock n roll" has the ALMIGHTY attitude, dirty street ,punk rock n roll. 

 

 

 

The album has a second bonus cd, of covers, who you could really enjoy,especially if you re in to Ricky's voice and approach.Britney Spears, Eddie Cochran , BOTTLE ROCKETS, Elvis and IRON MAIDEN (Dianno era) are among the artists he covers and their mostly stripped down covers works perfectly for his voice and attitude.

Ξαφνικός Θάνατος- Φίλιπ Κερρ (Κέδρος)

 

 Η πρώτη εμφάνιση του προπονητή ντετέκτιβ Σκοτ Μάνσον στην λογοτεχνία, γίνεται με επιτυχία στον «Ξαφνικό θάνατο». Η σκιαγράφηση του πρώην ποδοσφαιριστή, νυν προπονητή, με τις πανεπιστημιακές σπουδές, την εξασφαλισμένη οικονομικά  από την οικογενειακή αθλητική επιχείρηση ζωή και το παρελθόν της άδικης φυλάκισης για βιασμό, γίνεται με μαεστρία. Ο Κερρ, γνώστης του ποδοσφαιρικού γίγνεσθαι, θίγει με εξυπνάδα και λεπτότητα, αρκετά «καυτά» θέματα στον κόσμο του σύγχρονου επαγγελματικού ποδοσφαίρου.

 

 

Η Λόντον Σίτι, μια ομάδα που ιδιοκτήτης είναι ένας Ρώσος κροίσος, με αμφίβολη ηθική και πολύ χρήμα. Είναι μια ζωντανή περιγραφή των ομάδων της Πρέμιερ Λιγκ, με όλο το «χρυσό» παρασκήνιο πίσω της. Η ζωή στις προπονήσεις και η προετοιμασία πριν τους αγώνες, περιγράφεται με έντονα χρώματα, πειστικότητα και ιδιαίτερα ευαίσθητη και ρεαλιστική απόδοση στην περιγραφή των ακριβοπληρωμένων ποδοσφαιριστών. Μικρά παιδιά, με μεγάλους μισθούς και κακούς ως επί το πλείστον τρόπους, που ο εγωισμός τους είναι αντιστρόφως ανάλογος με το μορφωτικό επίπεδο τους. Ο Πορτογάλος προπονητής Ζοάο Ζάρκο, με στοιχεία Μουρίνιο, θα βρεθεί δολοφονημένος και ο Μάνσον που θα αναλάβει προσωρινά τη θέση του, θα έχει να ανακαλύψει αν οι απειλές εις βάρος του είχαν αποστολέα, οπαδούς των αντιπάλων, ανταγωνιστές Ρώσους του ιδιοκτήτη της ομάδας ή Άραβες του Κατάρ κατά του οποίου είχε εκφρασθεί ο νεκρός προπονητής για θέματα ισότητας φύλων εν όψει του επερχόμενου Παγκοσμίου Κυπέλλου εκεί.

Η ιστορία θα έχει μια ακόμη ηρωίδα, μια αστυνομικό ντετέκτιβ, που θα συμπαθήσει τον Μάνσον, ο οποίος σε κάθε ευκαιρία δεν θα χάσει την δυνατότητα να συγκρουστεί με την μητροπολιτική αστυνομία του Λονδίνου.

Η επιθυμία του να βρεθεί ο δολοφόνος του φίλου και μέντορα του Ζάρκο, θα τον οδηγήσει σε έρευνα του φόνου, αναλύσεις στοιχείων, θεωριών αλλά και αναθεώρηση της σχέσης του με τους παίκτες και τον ιδιοκτήτη. Μαζί με την έρευνα θα έχει να τρέξει έναν ημιτελικό λιγκ καπ με την Γουεστ Χαμ και τα συναισθήματα θα μεταβάλλονται από στιγμή σε στιγμή, στοιχείο με το στοιχείο. Ο Κερρ, γνώστης του ποδοσφαιρικού συστήματος και των αγώνων, μεταδίδει πιστά την ένταση και το πάθος, την απογοήτευση όταν είσαι πίσω στο σκορ, την αδρεναλίνη που ανεβαίνει με την επιτυχία του τέρματος, την μετάβαση από την κόλαση στον παράδεισο με την αλλαγή του αποτελέσματος υπέρ σου, σε μια πολύ ωραία περιγραφή του αγώνα με την Γουέστ Χαμ, από την ομιλία στα αποδυτήρια, εως τη στιγμή του τελευταίου σφυρίγματος.

Η έρευνα  και η ανακάλυψη του δολοφόνου, δεν θα έρθει μέσα από περίπλοκες αναλύσεις και ευρήματα που χρήζουν ικανοτήτων αναλυτών μυστικών υπηρεσιών. Η μαγεία του Κερρ, είναι οτι συμπληρώνει τις τελείες για να σχηματίσει το πορτραίτο του δολοφόνου, μέσα από μικρά στοιχεία, αληθοφανή, που εν μέρει βλέπει και ο αναγνώστης και δεν προχωρά σε ανατροπές εξόφθαλμες και τραβηγμένες. Ο Μάνσον δεν είναι ένας υπερ ήρωας αναλυτής, αλλά ένας ερασιτέχνης ντετέκτιβ, που διαθέτει οξύνοια, παρατηρητικότητα, υπομονή και βέβαια λίγη τύχη. Κατά τον ίδιο τρόπο, ο δολοφόνος αποδεικνύεται, ίσως πιο πεζός από ο,τι υποθέσαμε στην αρχή, αλλά δίνει ένα μεγαλύτερο τόνο ρεαλισμού, όταν αποκαλύπτεται η ταυτότητα του και οι συνθήκες του θανάτου του Ζάρκο.

Η πρώτη προσπάθεια του Κερρ, να εισαγάγει έναν νέο ήρωα στον χώρο της αστυνομικής λογοτεχνίας κρίνεται πετυχημένη. Ιδιαίτερα γιατί σκιαγραφεί τον περιβάλλοντα χώρο με ακρίβεια, γλαφυρότητα και κρατά το ενδιαφέρον του άνδρα αναγνώστη, εστιασμένο οχι μόνο στην ανακάλυψη του δολοφόνου, αλλά  την γενικότερη πλοκή. Λιτό, γρήγορο, καλογραμμένο και αληθοφανές, θα σας χαρίσει μερικές ώρες ευχάριστης ανάγνωσης, ακόμη πιο απολαυστικής αν είστε φίλος του ποδοσφαίρου.

 

Billy Gibbons- 'Hardware"

 

For the third time, as a solo artist Billy Gibbons. ZZ TOP axe man, lay down some serious blues, hard rockin stuff, in the vein of the early ZZ TOP work. The opener "My lucky card" has a touch of 'Tush" at the riff department. His third solo work is somewhere between the more funny oriented first and the blues driven second. He infuses some "Eliminator" elements in songs like "S-G-L-M-B-B-R"  and 'More, more,more" or the fun, tex mex element at the cover of 'Hey baby,Que paso" (Texas Tornado), "Shakin bones" with Larkin Poe and 'West Coast Junkie". Then you have 'I was a highway" is the stand out track of the album. A song for fans of pure Texas blues rock, with some hard rock elements and the Rio Grande tradition, Gibbons with the help of Matt Sorum (drums), Austin Hanks (guitars) delivers the goods. 

 

 

 

An album full of variety, from the rockin "Shes on fire", the more bluesy 'Vagabond man"with the discreet organ fill and the desert/stoner "Desert high", Gibbons make everything seems in the right order and sonically creates a mosaic where every piece brings its own color and shape. Being far out of the box he introduces us to a rock album equally traditional as modern , where his guitar licks and vocal lines create an atmospheric and teasing result. Until the next ZZ TOP album this is more than an adequate substitute.

Ayron Jones-"Child of state"

In his second recording work, Ayron Jones provides modern Hard work that has equal elements form RATM, AUDIOSLAVE as Lenny Kravitz and Jimi Hendrix ,all fused in the Hard rock pot. Modern hard rock with some blues elements is a decent description of this exceptional album. Ayron Jones plays music that fuses styles and goes beyond boundaries.From The Hard rock opener "Boys from the puget sound" to the more grunge "Take me away' and the Brit pop assault of  "Supercharged" the basic elements of gret riffing and catchy tunes are all here. Jones and his bandmates write modern radio hits. Danko Jones and GARBAGE are artists that come to mind at the same time. The heaviness of "Free" is balanced by the melody and the modern structure of the song.Gary Clark jr is meeting Lenny Kravitz jamming over some 90s rock hits and the result is "Child of state". 

 

 

 

The fresh air of Jones songwriting comes liberating in our days of plastic pop and rock music where stereotypes rule. Even The ballad "My love remains" has a sentimental depth and an intimacy that makes the listener push the repeat. A stripped down ballad that ignites in the refrain . 'Spinning circles' on the other side shows the pop sensibilities of the band and some serious song craft that is one of the strong points of Ayron Jones."Baptized in muddy waters' brings the blues in front ,asking for the listener to enjoy the 21st century blues. The closing track "take your time" is another example why this album is a shine of light in the stagnant modern US hard rock. Brave, radio friendly and yet rocking although the soul elements give the song its own unique twist.

 

 Overall an album to listen and listen to and get new elements every time. A great piece of music in these difficult times from a promising artist.
